Monthly Chapter Meeting (Nov. 5th) - Come on out!
Do you have a story? Have you ever thought about writing it down? Have you ever wondered what it would take to become a writer?
Those first steps can be daunting. I know they were for me. I felt extremely vulnerable to share my writing, as though my soul would be shaken out on a page for all to see... and judge. But I wanted to grow so badly that I took the risk... I stepped out. And what I encountered was very different from what I feared. First, I found I was not alone. All (or most) writers experience vulnerability in sharing their work. That's normal. Expected. All of us are on a journey to learn and grow. Some are ahead and can teach us. Some are behind and can learn from us. That's the beauty of it.
For me, my first steps happened in Colorado, where an amazing group of people took me under their wing. I joined ACFW (the American Christian Fiction Writers) and a weekly critique group. I was encouraged, inspired, and motivated to learn more. When I moved back to New Jersey, I searched high and low for the same support I had found in Colorado and came up with nothing. So, for my own sake (and with all of you in mind ;) ), I spearheaded a local chapter. One that could offer that same safe place to journey together as writers.
For any of you in the New York, New Jersey area, I invite you to come out and see what we're about! You don't have to be an author... or even a writer as of yet ;). Curiosity and a gentle nudge are enough! Come see for yourself... and be inspired!
We meet the first Saturday of each month at the Manse house at Grace Bible Chapel (100 Oakdale Rd, Chester, NJ) from 10am-12pm. Come for great coffee, fellowship, and teaching on the craft of writing. This Saturday (November 5th) is our next meeting. Hope to see you there!
